Weekend Review Sept. 9-11

First, let me start by saying I'm sure many people had heavy hearts this weekend as we all remembered the attacks on our country that took place 10 years ago.  I can hardly believe it has been ten years!  What an awful day that was--I was getting ready to go to my biology class as a Sophomore in college.  I remember Michael (who was my friend, at the time) calling me to tell me that there had been attacks on the Twin Towers in NYC.  My roommate, who had been out late the night before, was still asleep & I didn't want to wake her, but I did turn on my TV to see the horror unfold on the major news networks.  She soon woke up to find that our world had gone from one of security and certainty to one of uncertainty and terror.  She had family & friends in NYC and soon began trying to contact them.  No one could get through to their loved ones in NYC b/c all the cell circuits were in use.  What a terrifying day for so many!  Needless to say, classes were cancelled on my college campus & we all stayed close to our dorm watching the news as additional attacks or threats were reported.  I thank God we live in a country that is so resilient and remember the aftermath of the attacks as a real time of renewed pride in our home--America.  I give thanks daily for the brave men & women who have so selflessly served our country to protect it from further attacks and to defend our way of life.  We owe them so much!  Our ability to protect our children and enjoy our lives would not be possible without them....so thank you to all those who have served & continue to serve our country.

Cookies for my good girl:
The weekend started off with Jessica and I baking cookies on Friday afternoon after she went to "playschool" for the 1st time.  She had fun, although, she did cry when I left her :(  The teachers said she was a very dominant child & that she was trying to keep all the drums for herself...not a surprise to me!  She told me she was a good girl as soon as we were in the car & also asked for a "cook-cook" (her word for cookie).

Apparently, the heavenly smell of homemade chocolate chip cookies even got the deers' attention.  Because as soon as I had some out of the oven to cool...the deer began coming close to my patio doors.  For those of you not familiar with my deer problem, we actually have about a dozen deer that live in our yard, thanks to our neighbor (even though, I do love her, I wish she wouldn't encourage them) who feeds them.

Mommy's purse:
Also, this weekend I did something I haven't done in a while....I cleaned out my purse & treated myself to buying a new purse--I grant you not the most interesting thing, but kind of funny to see what I have stored in my purse.
Here's a list of the contents.  I don't know when it happens, but your purse becomes a mom purse over time & it's silly the things you feel the need to keep with you, just in case :)
Wallet
Sunglasses (these have mostly become a toy for Jessica)
Keys (again also a toy for Jessica)
Cell phone
6 tubes of lipstick: Mary Kay-pink diamond, 2 tubes Maybelline -Wine Rose, Clinique- All Heart, Berrylicious, and Angel Red (there are probably 6 tubes b/c I always intend to put it on in the car & always forget).
a hair elastic--pony tail is a must with 2 kids under 2 & considering the wild mane that I have
size 0-6 month baby socks--just in case I lose one off Ella in a store or something
Gum- orbit & Extra both sugar free
A granola bar--in case the hubs gets hungry

Sunday cuteness (well, mostly):
Sunday started off like any other Sunday morning, with a rush of activity at our home to try to get everyone fed & ready for the 9AM service.  I was actually really looking forward to the service this Sept. 11th b/c we had a guest speaker who had previously been a terrorist but now works as an "ambassador" for Christ--his words.  The girls looked adorable, but Jessica wouldn't cooperate to be photographed.  They had on two adorable coordinating dresses (thanks Grandma Passineau, Ella is finally big enough to wear hers) & everyone in the nursery told me how cute they were.   The drop off to the nursery is hit or miss these days & yesterday was to be Ella's 1st time in the nursery at church.  I truly felt she was ready & seemed very pleasant before church.  As soon as we handed her over, she gave us the dreaded "lip" and began to fuss.  We knew we were probably going to have trouble.  Well, we got settled in church & enjoyed the worship, but almost as soon as the speaker started we got the dreaded page.  I went in to see which one it was and it was Jessica.  Totally inconsolable & asking for "papey" or her pacifier--which she only gets at bedtime or naps.  Well, I didn't have a pacifier with me,  so she and I had to walk around for a little while.  In the meantime, I got another page & this time it was Ella--totally inconsolable & wouldn't take her bottle.  So here I am walking around through the church carrying 2 screaming babies...I know the other mother's reading this have had days like this.  Needless to say, I missed the entire service & the crazy thing is that as soon as it was over & Michael came out to meet us, they were totally fine...go figure!  Despite my trying time with them, Ella did let me photograph her once we got home & she did look adorable--you'd never know she almost brought her mommy to tears at church with her screaming :)
That dress is precious, right? & the baby isn't too bad either;)

Love this one...this is how she normally behaves

I had to get a shot of those little twinkle toe socks

Such a sweetie
I will add that my sweet husband grilled me a steak & some yummy potatoes for lunch once we got home--I think he knew I was on the brink.  So thanks to my wonderful hubs for such a tasty treat!  I hope you all had nice weekends & good time to reflect on our freedoms.  Have a wonderful Monday :)
