Norway adventure: Part VI

For our final day in Norway, we opted for a more low-key, non-cruise day!  We had hoped to make it to Balestrad, a quaint little village in the Sonjefjord, but it was a holiday & almost everything was closed.  We instead went to tourist information to see where would could go by bus or train to explore.  We opted for the town of Voss, a lovely train ride away from Bergen.  Known for the large lake & mountains that surround the town, it is picturesque.  The town of Voss looks like something you'd encounter in Switzerland.  From the architecture to the mountains that surround the lake, it is a beautiful little town.  It was originally a tourist stopping off point around 200 years ago for commoners & nobility alike who were traveling to Sonjefjord.  The famous hotel in Voss, Fleischer's hotel, which stands at the heart of the town center has hosted numerous kings & queens & artifacts from their visits can be seen when inside the hotel itself.  Unfortunately, most of the shopping was closed on the day we went because of the holiday, but it still made for a nice area to stroll.  The stone church also in the city center was originally built in 1255.  It was a great way to end our time in Norway.  We headed back to the city after a late lunch at the Fleischer's hotel & got to bed early for our return trip to the US.  The full-day of travel that would get us back to Pittsburgh was not without it's hassles & frustrations, but now looking back through the photos I'm so thankful for our time in Norway & for the time to reconnect as husband and wife.  It's always nice to be reminded of the fun we have together when it's just the two of us.  That being said we were thrilled to see the girls when we returned.
